Authors must secure separate research visas for each participating nation, with processing times ranging from 11 days in Estonia to 97 days in Vietnam. The absence of a single multilateral clearance mechanism means that any delay in one jurisdiction stalls fieldwork across the entire itinerary.
Most applicants hold citizenship in one of the 12 founding countries yet must still obtain entry permits for the remaining partners because cultural-heritage site access requires local institutional affiliation. The grant therefore requires a Gantt chart showing sequential visa acquisition aligned with each country's fiscal-year budget cycle for archive access fees.
Applications succeed when they map how a single building type, such as 19th-century market halls, varies across climatic zones represented by the partner states. Authors must attach correspondence from each national heritage agency confirming that the project will use the agency's preferred orthography for place names and will deposit digital copies in the agency's repository before publication. Funding covers the cost of certified translations of building codes that differ, for example, between seismic standards in Chile and wind-load requirements in Mauritius.
Unlike bilateral exchange programs, this grant demands evidence that the manuscript will address at least one regulatory divergence, such as the contrasting treatment of timber provenance documentation under EU and ASEAN timber regulations.
