Global Leukemia Network applications center on workforce development for multi-country leukemia research teams that operate across at least three WHO regions. The 2023 Global Burden of Disease data indicate that low- and middle-income countries account for 72 percent of new leukemia cases yet produce only 11 percent of peer-reviewed treatment studies.

Eligible principal investigators hold appointments at institutions outside high-income North America and Western Europe or maintain documented partnerships with such institutions. Applications require a workforce matrix listing each team member's nationality, current location, and specific contribution, with explicit identification of at least two investigators based in countries with fewer than five PubMed-indexed leukemia papers in the prior five years.
Budget narratives must allocate no more than 25 percent to any single country and must include line items for virtual collaboration platforms capable of operating on 2G mobile networks. Personnel costs may cover early-career researchers in participating countries but exclude salary support for investigators in the top 10 NIH-funded nations.
The mechanism fits international contexts when the proposed network uses existing regional pathology hubs in India, South Africa, and Brazil rather than creating new central laboratories. Reviewers assess whether sample-sharing agreements comply with each participating country's export regulations and whether publication plans include first-author opportunities for local investigators.
Unlike single-country submissions from Israel, international proposals must demonstrate at least one joint deliverable, such as a shared protocol or dataset, completed within the first 12 months.
